We Arrived!

After a very long journey, we arrived in the city capital, Dar Es Salaam. As soon as we got our bags, we went through customs and found Hassan waiting for us. We could tell he was for us because of the Kayli and Jake poster he was holding. He seemed very happy to see us, but we soon found out that he spoke almost no English, and our Swahili is not up to par quite yet. He helped us to exchange some US dollars into shillings, and we walked to the cab that Manuel was driving. He was also very nice, and found it humorous that we kept repeating the few Swahili words we do know. He spoke a little more English, but not much. He called Rashid (head of the he school in Iringa), and I talked to him about what time Manuel would be back to get us tomorrow to take us to the bus station.

Driving through the city was interesting! Cars drive on the left, and the steering wheel is on the opposite side. People don't seem to follow any traffic laws if there even are any. It was ten at night, and the sides of the streets were still filled with people at small stands or walking around. We took a short cut that made us both nervous, it was completely covered in giant holes that we went through. A bit sketchy we would say, but Manuel assured us it was a good short cut. He took us to a hotel, where four men helped us carry bags and lead the way to our room.  We are in a very nice room, way nicer than expected. It has air conditioning, a water heater and even a tv. We will eat breakfast here, then hop on a bus to Iringa in the morning!

Usiku mema!(good night)
