Manuel picked us up at 8, and took us to buy a phone then drop us off at the bus station. We hopped on a bus for eight hours. It was like a coach bus, so not as bad as expected. The view was awesome. We saw so many little villages on the side of the road. Many people had little shops and stands and little huts. There were chickens running around everywhere, and also goats. After we had been driving about four hours, we got to see giraffes! It was amazing. We also saw two monkeys that looked something like baboons. They were real cute.
Gasaya and Sam picked us up when we arrived. They were so nice, and took us to our hostel. It is a gated area that we share with some dormitories. It feels very safe. We have our own room on the end of the building right next to the restrooms which is nice. The restrooms will take some getting used to... It is a hole in the ground basically. Good thing we brought toilet paper!
Jake and I got settled in, then Gasaya picked us up for dinner. On the way we saw four other volunteers walking, so we stopped and picked them up. They are from the US, England, Germany and Poland. They are all very friendly and seem to really know their way around. Hopefully that is how we feel soon, because we have absolutely no idea now.
This blog was a fantastic idea! I love being able to follow you guys - thanks for all the pictures! That avocado juice looks amazing and so refreshing. I wonder what you'll be getting for breakfast normally in Iringa. Glad you're settled in your new home away from home. The toilets were like that some places in the Philippines - it is more sanitary than a normal toilet! Can't wait to hear more about the town and your school! Be safe, love you!
ReplyDeleteSo excited for you guys and your adventures! Keep safe, have fun, and come back with even more stories than you have time to post! Love you, Kitty!
