Metemwe

Thursday, June 27th

This morning we went from Nungwi to Mtemwe. The dala dala (bus-kind of) dropped us off in town, but we were staying at Keys Bungalows which is far away. We were waiting for a taxi when we were offered a ride in the back of a truck. There were six of us, so we decided to experience it. I have mentioned the lack of roads, so it was quite interesting to be on those roads in the back of a truck. So glad we did it!

The place we were staying was cute, and the owner was so nice. We looked at all the bungalows and each got to pick our own. This was mine and Jake's:

It was right on the water, so we spent a lot of time hanging out here:
Especially in the morning when Jake and I locked ourselves out of our room. I guess spare keys aren't important in Mtemwe, because they didn't have one. We waited for over an hour for a guy who supposedly had one. He didn't, he just pushed down the door. We won't make that mistake again!

Mtemwe was different from anywhere else we have been. It is far from touristy. There are fishermen and fishing boats all along the beaches, and the water was not as pretty. I wouldn't want to swim in it. Jake, Aga, Kim and I spent the day walking the beach and exploring. The people were not as friendly, Aga was hit in the butt by a little boy, and little girl was pretending to throw the dead squid she was holding at my face, and the kids use the open beach as a toilet. It was definitely interesting.

When we got back from our walk, Eric arrived! He was able to take a few days off work to travel ith us! We were all so happy to see him. We ate dinner at our bungalows and played some darts before going to sleep. More traveling in the morning!
